Acedia & Me
For readers familiar with Kathleen Norris, Acedia & me is a continuation of her personal spiritual journey. Norris is now 60 and her latest book provides a perspective on routine, repetition and commitment. Roughly translated, acedia means sloth or inability to care and this depression-like state lurks in Norris's shadows. She explores the origin and use of this word and in doing so her book may at times read like a dissertation. But, hang in there or speed read through these dense dissertations and you can always go back and re-read. We are adults, there are no rules about what, when or how to read. The joy of owing a Norris book is that it is timeless and multilayered and it is perfectly content to sit on your bookshelf waiting for you to unpeel another layer. |
